Why choose something synthetic when nature has the answers for healthy hair growth?
That pleasant citric fragrance when you peel an orange? That aromatic quality comes from the essence of the fruit or plant and are called essential oils. Essential oils are pure aromatic extracts that can even be derived from seeds, leaves, bark, roots and more through the process of distillation. Mankind has used these aromatic characteristics to heal physically and psychologically, known as Aromatherapy.

They’re as pure as they can get. And because they’re so concentrated, they should never be used undiluted. Naturally, different essential oils have different properties. We’ve listed down few that are infamous for aiding hair to heal and grow.

1. Lavender Essential Oil:

Lavender Essential Oil- Ingredient for The Grape Escape Shampoo Bars
Stress relieving Lavender has so many amazing properties. It aids cell repair, it’s antimicrobial and antibacterial which is key to improving scalp health. There are studies that suggest it may be useful for treating anxiety, insomnia, depression, and restlessness. Because of these therapeutic properties, ‘The Grape Escape’ shampoo bar is known as a spa in a bar. It calms your scalp and boosts hair growth.

Alternatively, you can mix few drops of Lavender essential oil into a carrier oil like Olive oil or Coconut oil (Jojoba oil if you want a light oil) and massage it on to your scalp. Leave it in for 10 minutes or more before shampooing as you normally would.

2. Peppermint Essential Oil:

Peppermint Essential Oil
Known to increase blood circulation, it leaves you with a pleasant tingling feeling on the area applied. Proper blood circulation helps reduce hairfall. And so, Peppermint essential oil is believed to increase the number of follicles, follicle depth, and overall hair growth. If your hair type is oily to normal, you can try our ‘Slay with Clay’ shampoo bar which carries peppermint essential oil with cleansing effects of Bentonite and Rhassoul clay.

Alternatively, you can mix few drops of peppermint essential oil with the carrier oil of your choice. Massage it on to your scalp, and leave in for 5 minutes before shampooing as you normally would.

3. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil:

Extracted from the native Indonesian Cananga Odorata tree, Ylang Ylang essential oil is immensely nourishing for the scalp. Ylang Ylang means “flower of flowers” and has been used for centuries across tropical areas of Asia including the Philippines, Indonesia and the Polynesian Islands. It’s ideal for those with dry scalps as it stimulates sebum production. Lack of oil and sebum causes hair to become dry and brittle. Ylang Yang can improve hair texture and can potentially reduce hair breakage.

Our ‘Hair Oil Before Bath‘ is infused with Ylang Ylang essential oil. In additional to hair growth, its soothing aroma lifts your mood, restoring a feeling of harmony and balance.

Alternatively, you can mix a few drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil with a warm carrier oil. Massage it on to your scalp and wrap your head with a warm towel. Leave it in for 30 minutes before washing it out.

4. Lemongrass Essential Oil:

Lemongrass Essential Oil
Dandruff can be a common ailment, and having a healthy, flake-free scalp is a sign of a healthy scalp. Lemongrass oil is effective in treating dandruff, with one 2015 study finding that it significantly reduced dandruff after one week.
Lemongrass oil for dandruff is most effective when used daily. Mix a few drops into your haircare routine and make sure it’s massaged into your scalp.

It’s hard to imagine that we’ve been using toxic chemical-based haircare when nature had the answers all along. Toxic for us and our planet, these synthetics do more harm than good. Good that we’re making the switch now.

It’s little switches like these that turn into #TheBigSave.

Happy Switching!
