frequently asked questions
a few of the questions we got asked the most.
since all plastic is made of toxic chemicals, it doesn’t make any sense to start your day rubbing chemicals inside your mouth. To top it, more than 4.9 billion toothbrushes are thrown away every year around this planet.
Bamboo is actually classified as a type of grass and it can be a very sustainable crop; a fast growing grass, it requires no fertilizer and self-regenerates from its own roots, so it doesn’t need to be replanted. The bamboo tree (or grass) is grown in abundance in many parts of the world.
the panda eats 42 species of bamboo. however, the bamboo we use (mos bamboo) grows up to 28 meters high, so the leaves are out of the panda’s reach. we love pandas!
these are probably healthier than your regular toothbrushes. our hand-crafted bamboo handles are heat-treated to carbonize the surface of the bamboo. this carbonization finishing process makes the handles water-resistant. plus, we use only 100% biodegradable, sustainably-grown bamboo, which means no harmful chemicals have gone into creating our toothbrush. what’s more, bamboo is naturally anti-microbial, making it difficult for bacteria to grow on it.
we know we are not perfect yet, as our bristles are made from nylon. the only fully biodegradable option is boar hair. due to our love for animals this is no option. also, boar hair is very firm, while dentists recommend softer bristles. we experimented with other types of bristles, but no material will stay at the desired quality level for the recommended 3 months. however, we are continuously looking for alternatives. if you have any ideas please let us know.
The handle is made from 100% sustainable bamboo and can be put in your home compost or in a commercial composting bin. The bristles are made from Nylon and are not biodegradable.
For proper disposal, please remove the bristles. It’s easy to do so with a pair of pliers. Once the bristles are removed, the handle can be put in your home compost or in a commercial composting bin. Each country has different recycling options, but in most countries and cities you’ll be able to put the bristles in the plastic recycling bin. do Check with your local authority.
