Why isn’t my shampoo bar working?

It's these tiny mistakes that mark the difference between hair feeling clean or feeling like a greasy mess when you're using a shampoo bar .

For some, switching to shampoo bars is like a breeze but for some, not so much. Even when you want to make the switch to a conscious lifestyle, you feel this is just not for you. Don’t worry, it is neither you or the shampoo bars. The devil is in the details. Read on to know what may be causing your shampoo bar to not work-

#1 You’re using a soap-based shampoo bar

A soap-based shampoo bar is basically a soap with a mix of oils and butters. A soap has a pH of 8-10 while our scalp pH is acidic. That difference in pH, my friends, is a big problem. Soap-based shampoo bars disrupt the scalps pH considerably over time. A weak scalp makes for all kinds of hair problems from dryness, itchiness to hair fall. This problem gets aggravated with hard water as soaps leave behind deposits (soap scum) on your scalp and that makes your hair look greasy or dry.

#2 You’re using hard water to wash your hair

Hard water, which is now a more common phenomenon in Indian cities, can be harsh on the scalp and hair. When using soap-based shampoo bars, this problem is far more aggravated as soaps lose their ability to mix and rinse off easily in hard water conditions. They ultimately leave behind deposits (soap scum) on the scalp that makes hair look greasy in some cases and extremely dry in some.

Hard Water vs Soft Water

#3 You're probably applying your shampoo bar wrong

Shampoo bars are advanced, and thus, more sophisticated in comparison to liquid shampoos. At the same time, they’re very easy to use once you get a hang of it. A lot of people rub shampoo bars back and forth on their scalp. That’s a big no no as it ends up tangling your hair so much. An easy and gentle way to shampoo your hair is to gently glide the shampoo bar over your scalp from top to bottom. Gliding it 3-4 times on each side should be more than enough. And then simply use your fingers to massage your scalp to work up a bubbly lather.

How to use Shampoo Bars

#4 You have product build-up on your scalp and hair

Getting out of a toxic relationship isn’t easy. The toxic residue on your scalp from petroleum and silicone based products are difficult to clean. They can accumulate on the scalp and hair over time and can cause your hair to feel weighed down. This build-up can be cleansed with well-formulated shampoo bars, like our Detoxifying Play It Coal Shampoo Bar or Scalp Clarifying Slay with Clay Shampoo Bar.

Product Build Up

#5 You’re using a wrong shampoo bar

If the above 4 reasons do not apply, you’re probably using a shampoo bar that’s not suited for your scalp or hair type. To make this easy for you, we have created a whole range of shampoo bars for different scalp, hair and concerns that you can find here.
